SELF EXTINGUISHING GrassSupport™ or GrassPlayMats™ offer a non-slip surface on permeable/non-permeable surfaces, while helping to protect the ground surface reducing mud and ruts. On grass play areas, the mats offer a safe fall height to BS EN 1177 of 2.7m/3m while also offering a self extinguishing surface.
These Mats are 'Self-Extinguishing'
While these mats will ignite while a source of flame is present, they will extinguish within 15 seconds of the source of flame being removed. While offering a safe fall height to BS EN 1177 of 2.7m/3m (dependant on underlying surface) the mats are classed as Grade 2 mats to EN ISO 11925-2 and EN ISO 9279-1 standard.
When laid on grass outside, the mats settle into the top surface of the ground - once this happens, the amount of oxygen that can reach the mat is on the top of the mat only, so burn tests on mats can become redundant as materials do not burn without a source of oxygen and will often self-extinguish in this situation.

Fire retardant or Self Extinguishing grades are normally only neccessary under Buidling Regulations for mats used in-doors.
