Adhesive, Floor Screed/DPM and Protective Coating 5 products

Adhesive, Floor Screed and Flexible DPM systems to bond mats professionally to almost any existing floor.

To bond mats correctly, for longest possible sealing these are the criteria we suggest.

Existing Concrete Floor - identification:
• How Level is the floor (is there a fall for drainage)
• What is the surface roughness (ie is it a trowel finish, tamped finish, brushed finish etc)
• Is there a DPM (Damp Proof membrane)
• How porous is the concrete
• What is the moisture level of the concrete

Based on the answers to these questions there are different sequences of work to be done to ensure a good mechanical and chemical bond of mats to floor.

a. Applied Flexible DPM – a fluid system DPM to seal the floor and ensure capillary action does not affect the subsequent bond
b. Self Levelling Screed – high strength screed product to level floors in the case of surface being too rough (the option to this would be to grind the floor level)
c. Mat preparation – to ensure a good key of adhesive to the underside of each mat, the simplest method is to run a belt sander across the back of the mat – this slightly roughens the surface but also removes any release agent left on the bottom of the mat which may react with the adhesive. The edges of each mat can be lightly sanded also to ensure a good edge bond.
d. Adhesive – we supply a one-part acrylic emulsion adhesive – this is simply applied to the floor – the area of one mat at a time, using a notched trowel. The mat is then laid onto the adhesive and pressed into place - normally enough adhesive is pushed up around the outside of the mat to give an edge bond for the next mat being laid.

While this may seem complicated, it is simply the most effective way of laying a floor system that will give you the best possible results. We have seen too many customers who have used alternative adhesives, which appear to bond well on the day – only to be called in to make repairs a few weeks later when the adhesive fails.

If you’d like us to quote for the adhesive system, or to fix the mats for you, please confirm your stable size(s) and delivery address (photos of your floor surface will help us to evaluate)
