Horsebox and trailer matting: what do you need to know?
Preparation is always key and knowing the following things will reduce the amount of time you have to spend finding the best product for you and your horse.
Measurements: This one sounds obvious however, with materials of 2.4m wide we can provide single sheet rubber without any joins. If you have your measurements at the ready, we can advise and quote you either over the phone or online.
Payload: With all horseboxes and trailers, payload is always a consideration. If we know this, we’re able to recommend the best products for you and can advise on any additional or reduction in weight.
Floor inspection: This is possibly the most important. If your floor or ramp are in bad condition it needs to be fixed. Before you go any further or its used again. Unsafe, rotten or bad condition can have huge safety issues, so if you’re unsure, contact a local horsebox or trailer specialist. We’re sure they will be happy to help.
Other considerations would be the size and weight of your horse or pony and the lengths of time you are travelling for.
Ramp matting:
The weight is key here as if it is dramatically heavier you may need your springs tightened for the extra weight. In most cases it’s a like for like replacement. However, if you get in touch, we can talk through all the options with you.
Wall matting:
The best thing to think of is what are you trying to achieve? EVA products offer a fantastic light weight protection so is very popular. Rubber eats into your payload but offers a harder wearing surface more suited to horsebox transport companies.
